When used properly, OCS are an important and effective anti-inflammatory treatment but can have serious side effects. Taking short bursts of OCS as few as four times in your lifetime can increase your risk of many conditions like diabetes, cataracts, and osteoperosis. Working with your doctor to keep your asthma under control is the best way to prevent the need for OCS and their harmful side effects.
