Description: This medication is an oral tablet used for long term treatment of asthma in adults and children over 5 years of age. It works by decreasing the body’s response to allergens.

Dosage
Adults and children ≥ 12 years of age: 20 mg twice a day
Children 5 to 11 years: 10 mg twice daily
Proper Use
See instructions for proper use. Take this medicine at the same time each day.
Take on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.
Precautions
Do NOT use this drug to treat an asthma attack. Continue to use this medication as prescribed, even if asthma symptoms are not present.
This medication should not be used in patients with liver disease, including hepatic cirrhosis.
Common Interactions
Some of the medications zafirlukast interacts with include aripiprazole, carvedilol, erythromycin, theophylline, and warfarin.

Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and stomach upset.
Tell your doctor or seek medical attention if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, wheezing, trouble breathing), signs of liver problems (dark urine, light-colored stools), or new symptoms of depression.
