MMAC History

In April 1999, 37 individuals convened to create what is now the Mid-Michigan Asthma Coalition, a non-profit charitable organization. Early focus was on patient, professional, school and worksite education.

Signature events have included annual celebrations of World Asthma Day at Impression 5 Museum and "Not One More Life" at various places of worship and Head Start locations. The coalition now also works to advance healthcare improvements, such as health plan reimbursement for in-home asthma case management, increased availability of medical supplies (spacers and peak flow meters) and healthy homes supplies and equipment, and improvements to both indoor and outdoor air quality.
