Detroit, the Epicenter of the Asthma Burden – 2008
Detroit experiences the greatest asthma burden in Michigan, especially among its children. This report highlights this burden across the many datasets monitored by the Michigan asthma surveillance system, including survey prevalence, hospitalization, Medicaid claims, and mortality.
This is a joint report of the Michigan State University Department of Medicine and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Bureau of Epidemiology. Although the number of deaths is not large, the circumstances surrounding these deaths are dramatic. The deaths are particularly tragic because they are preventable.
Asthma Prevalence, Severity, and Management for Michigan Adults – 2005
This report was prepared by the epidemiology staff of AIM and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System in the Bureau of Epidemiology at the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services. Its development was supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Using data from the Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Survey, this brief statistical report describes the prevalence of asthma, symptoms, quality of life, and indicators of disease severity and management for adults in Michigan.
